I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #14154), having completed a Master of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology and meeting the criteria for the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors. Prior to that my education and training has been in psychology, addictions, criminology, mental health, both individual and family counselling, philosophy and spirituality with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University and a Substance Abuse Counselling Certificate from Vancouver Community College.
I have worked in the mental health and addictions field for over 20 years so have extensive experience and practice working with men, women, youth and families who struggle with coping to various degrees. As a healing practitioner, I use a holistic, client-centred, growth-focused and strengths-based approach to counselling. I have training in Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Transformational Systemic Therapy, Trauma, Attachment, Neuroscience, Self-Compassion and Somatic Experiencing. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and an approved trauma counsellor for Crime Victim Assistance Program. In addition to this, I will be starting EMDR training this fall.
I also have training in Buddhist, yogic and shamanic practices, energy healing and Jungian depth psychology or shadow work. Thus I am prepared to work with people of diverse backgrounds and challenges. I have much experience working with stress, depression, anxiety, anger, trauma, addiction, chronic pain, difficult relationships, parenting, grief and loss, various life transitions and much more.
In additional to my clinical practice, I am Adjunct Faculty at the Adler University teaching the Introduction to Addictive Disorders to graduate counselling students and an international trainer providing workshops, public talks and presentations around the world.
I am passionate about healing and have been on my own personal healing journey for many years. I enjoy reading, the outdoors, yoga and meditation plus love new adventures and exploring the beautiful world we live in.
